SICILY. Leontini. Circa 430-425 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.91 g, 5 h). Laureate head of Apollo to left. Rev. ΛEONTINON Head of a lion with open jaws to left; around, four barley grains. Boehringer, Münzgeschichte -, cf. 51 (for obverse) and 61 (for reverse). HGC 2, - cf. 668 (for obverse) and 673 (for reverse). SNG ANS -. A very rare variety. Nicely toned. Struck from a somewhat worn obverse die and with minor spots of corrosion and an old scratch on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
